Style in Writing :: Teaching Writing

dah in Writing Do the hyphens around us influence the expression we think and the elbow room we sing and write? From the time of elementary school to the present, people learn contrasting styles. We learn how to use different styles at different times. People puzzle these different styles and apply them into writing and conversations.Society has made certain styles more appropriate at times then opposite styles. For example we speak other than at church service then we speak at a boot out. Society sets standards on where we use a certain style. Imagine if some(a)body at church was fella consistently in a conversation. Everybody would think he was rude and would talk about him after he left. But if this guy was in a bar and had a few beers, no wiz would think much about it.Style in writing has been set in many slipway by the formalized style. Who set this official style and why do we need to follow it? It is expected in many of our college classes that we need to use the official style when we write papers. This English class was the first time I have looked at different styles of writing besides the official style. All the other English classes that I have taken in the past like to focus on how to write in the official style. The writer needs a bag and the whole paper needs to be in a certain format. The paper has rules to follow and if we dont use them, be tell leave alone suffer. When I try and write in the official style, I write in phrases that I would normally never say when I am talk to another person. But by using the official style we are suppose to sound educated and it makes us sound like we inhabit what we are talking about. If two papers are written and one is in the official style and the other is not and someone enjoins them both which one would they run across was written by someone with a higher education? Thats an easy one. Then there is the hard working construction proletarian who doesnt give a crap about the official s tyle. Certain people have set up the official style as the clear way to write. Would not people rather read things that are easily understood and can comprehend what the writer is saying or would they rather read some paper that is long winded and full of information, but they can not comprehend what they read unless they look over it a few times.Style in Writing Teaching WritingStyle in Writing Do the styles around us influence the way we think and the way we speak and write? Two Conceptions of Freedom or Two Appearances of a single Conception? E

In his essay "Two Concepts of Liberty," Isaiah Berlin distinguishes between two conceptions of liberty, videlicet ostracize and authoritative conception of freedom. Basically he defines negative liberty as the absence of coercion. He states "To coerce a man is to deprive him of freedom" (121). According to him, coercion is the intention to interfere in the freedom of an individual. Thus, absence of coercion is absence of deliberate, intentional coercion. For him, negative liberty requires an immune area, away from the officious action of other people. For the accomplishment of freedom "some portion of human existence must remain independent of the sphere of social control" (126) However, achievement of negative liberty, creation of the immune area from coercion, is contingent upon the authority to be kept at bay. Therefore, the position of authority, which entails coercive powers, should be controlled in order to make them accountable to the people, whos e freedom, immunity from coercion depends on. Positive liberty, on the other hand, is, not freedom from coercion, but freedom to determine ones own destiny it is self-determination. In this sense positive liberty is a necessary condition of human being, right to choose, right to determine ones behavior. Berlin maintains that the negative and positive concepts of liberty are "at no ample logical distance from each other," but in reality they are profoundly divergent, in fact irreconcilable,...
